Dancing school party marks first year of success for new venture

A Hucknall dance school celebrated its first anniversary with a family party.

Rebecca Priestley set up her School of Dance a year ago and marked the first year with a high-kicking party.

The 20 year-old trained at Lisa-Marie’s dance school in Bestwood Village but since gaining her teaching qualification set up her own business from Hucknall’s John Godber Centre.

“It’s been a brilliant first year,” said Rebecca. “It was very nerve-wracking in the beginning setting up the business, especially being so young,” said the Linby Road resident.

“I’ve loved every second of it and the support I have received from the parents and the community has been brilliant.”

The young dancers have been learning latin and ballroom under Rebecca’s tuition and are now heading towards exam season.

“This is an exciting time for us all,” added Rebecca. “There are over 30 students on Tuesday evenings which has blown me out of the water.”

The birthday celebrations were marked with a family party for the students and their parents on Tuesday evening.

“It was a wonderful night for the youngsters and a great way to mark our school’s first year of success.”

Rebecca is about to expand with a social evening of dance on the first Friday of the month starting on Friday 3rd October.

“Everybody is invited of all ages and of all abilities,” she added. “It starts at 7.30pm and will include ballroom, latin and sequence and will also feature tuition too but in a social context.”

The social nights will run from the John Godber Centre and cost £5 and the centre’s bar will also be open for refreshments.
