Dave’s LeJogRally triumph for wife Linda

Bilshthorpe man and Ex-firefighter Dave Bryan (56) has conquered after doing battle with broken alternators and dodgy suspension to come second in class during the last leg of a rally from Land’s End to John O’ Groats.

Dave undertook the 1,500-mile LeJog British classic rally driving experience to raise money for charity Breast Cancer Care in memory of his wife, Linda.

The endurance rally - which he completed in a 44-year-old Ford Escort MK 1 - is known as one of the most demanding and challenging events in Europe.

Said Dave: “It was hard. The most difficult thing I have attempted in my life but that is what it was like in the 1960s and 1970s - the pace was relentless.”

LeJog takes in no motorways and is only open to cars built before 1984, so poses a real challenge to its drivers as they have no backup crews.

Dave and co-driver Ian Humpherson’s challenge raised £1,500 for the cancer charity and he hopes to enter again next year.
