DERBYSHIRE: £5m road investment planned

Funding of over £5 million for improvements to the highways and transport network across the county has been approved in principle by Derbyshire County Council.

Cabinet members approved £5.2 million of funding on Tuesday, January 21st, to allow design work and consultation to be carried out for a number of schemes which, if given the green light, would start in 2014-15.

The county council has secured grants of over £21 million towards its highways and transport program but still needs to finalise its budget and so schemes might change, a spokesman said.

But in a bid to ensure work gets carried out on time, some improvements are being considered early in principle to allow design and preparation work to take place as well as to make local people aware of planned work.
