Dog rescued after OAP escapes burning Warsop home

A Warsop pensioner was reunited with his beloved dog after a neighbour rescued it from his blazing home.

The golden retriever was said to have been trapped as fire swept through the house on Burns Lane on Sunday afternoon.

The occupant named locally as Eddie Dobb, 82 escaped the blaze.

Witness Damian Wheatley told Chad: “I was watching TV when I saw flames shooting out of the side window.

“The flames were so fierce they were shooting out of the front and burning the hedge outside.

“The man who lives at the other side went into the house and got the dog out.

“Eddie managed to walk out on his own - afterwards the dog was just sitting there shaking.

Another neighbour said: “Eddie thinks the world of his dog and they are inseparable.”

Mr Dobb is understood to be staying with friends along with his faithful companion.

He was unavailable for comment as we went to press on Wednesday.

Firefighters from Warsop and Mansfield tackled the blaze which was reported at 4.33pm.

Crews used two hosereels and four sets of breathing apparatus as they extinguished the flames.
