The memorial fund received the cash from Savanna Rags International, based in Forest Road, and donated £2,000 from its own reserves to the Royal British Legion’s Nottinghamshire Welfare Benevolent Fund.

Fund chairman Graham Parker said: “The partnership with Savanah Rags works really well for us as charity.

“Hitting £5,000 in such a short time is great but what’s really important is to be able to use that money to help our local veterans through the legion. For every £200 we have donated it can bring in another £200 to match it which means lots more veterans getting the support they need.”
