POPULAR Hucknall GP Dr Kevin D’Mello (pictured above) is taking part in the Berlin Marathon in Germany to raise money for a homelessness charity.

Dr D’Mello (55) is set to lace up his running shoes for the race on Sunday September 25 in aid of Framework, the organisation which helps the homeless and vulnerable around Nottinghamshire.

The super-fit doctor said the city road race would be his final marathon after several gruelling challenges for charity — and he hoped he could cap it off with a top fundraising performance.

He said: “The training has been quite difficult at times, so I think it is likely to be the last marathon I take part in. I am hoping to raise a good amount of money for Framework, which is responsible for a lot of good work in this area.

“Charities are having a tough time in the current economic climate.

“ I appreciate how generous everyone has been in the past and pledge to match whatever is raised up to my target of £2,000.”

Dr D’Mello has raised thousands of pounds for various charities through a remarkable series of runs since June 2002.

He completed the London Marathon in 2007 when his sponsorship yielded £2,546 for the Kids’ Company children’s charity.

He has also taken part in the Robin Hood Half-Marathon in Nottingham.
