Drink driver banned for two years

A Mansfield man was almost three times over the limit when he drove his car into a fence, a court heard.

Ashley Laden, 25 of Princess Street admitted driving his Renault Megane on Castle Street Mansfield with 92 mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, when he appeared at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

The legal limit is 35mcg.

The court was told witnesses heard a large bang in the early hours of 26th June and saw a car had smashed into a fence.

When the police visited Layden’s address they found him inspecting the damage to his vehicle.

He said he had been working at the Bold Forester pub where he joined a drinking session after his shift.

He said his actions had been out of character. Magistrates disqualified him from driving for 24 months, fined him £270, with court costs of £85 victim surcharge of £27 and criminal court charge of £150.
