John David Sharp, 48, of Gill Street, Sutton, admitted driving with excess alcohol and without insurance in the early hours of April 23.

A breath test revealed he had 53 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, when the legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

The court heard he had recently been given the Lexus by his father and the insurance paperwork had not been sent.

Sarah Neale, mitigating, told the court that Sharp was of previous good character and worked at the Toyota car plant at Burnaston, near Derby, but would struggle to commute without a car.

He received a 12-month ban and was fined £450 and told to pay £85 costs and a £45 victim surcharge.
