Drink driver who crashed into a fence did not realise he was over the limit

A Forest Town motorist said he did not realise he was over the drink drive limit when he smashed his car into a garden fence.

Darren Stuart Parnaby pleaded guilty at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court to driving his BMW car on New Mill Lane Forest Town, with 49mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35.

The court was told Parnaby, 46, of Shearsby Drive, took a corner too fast lost control and ended up hitting the fence.

He told police he had drunk a glass of wine and a can of beer and had misjudged the amount of alcohol. He was disqualified for 14 months, fined £400 with £85 costs, £150 criminal Court charge and victim surcharge of £40.
