Driver almost three times over the limit

A Bilsthorpe man drove his car almost three times over the alcohol limit as he took another man from the scene of a fight.

Matthew William Morris pleaded guilty to driving a Renault Laguna on Mansfield road Sutton with 97 mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath.

Morris, 25 of Saville Road who appeared at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday told police he had been out drinking when a fight had broken out outside a pub between two cousins.

A knife had been drawn and he had made the foolish decision to drive one cousin away from the scene. He was given a 12 month community order with 80 hours of unpaid work, disqualified from driving for 14 months, costs of £85, a victim surcharge of £60 and £150 criminal court charge.
