Driver faces road ban following police sting in Annesley

Nottinghamshire Police officers and representatives from VOSA (Vehicle and Operator Services Agency) spent Sunday (16 February 2014) on the carriageways around Junction 27 of the M1, following previous issues of car cruising in the area.

During the operation 13 motorists were prosecuted for traffic offences, including careless driving, lack of paperwork and vehicle defects.

One man could lose his licence after questions were raised over his insurance status and the quality of his vehicle’s tyres.

Three vehicles were also seized from motorists due to lack of insurance and VOSA issued 11 prohibition notices due to various defects.

Encouragingly, the 31 drivers asked to take a breath test blew negative.

Sergeant Simon Scales said: “We have no tolerance for reckless behaviour on our roads - from invalid insurance and unsafe vehicles to the Fatal Four of excess speed, drink driving, mobile phone use behind the wheel and lack of seatbelts

“There is also an existing dispersal order in place in this area and breaching it is a criminal offence.

“We staged this particular operation to support our aim of keeping Nottinghamshire’s roads safe, but also for local residents who have had enough of dealing with the noise pollution from loud engines as late as midnight.”
