Driver set for charity marathon

A Sutton truck driver is to compete in three long distance events in 2014 as part of his fundraising efforts.

Martin Parkes, has just completed the first leg of his gruelling challenge after completing the 26.2 mile London Marathon in 5 hrs: 47 mins and 22 secs.

To complete his hat-trick of distance runs, Martin plans to run both the Bupa Great North Run and the Robin Hood Half Marathon in September and hopes to raise more than £1,000 for Help for Heroes.

Martin, who works for distribution firm and Palletways member, Mitchells of Mansfield, said: “I started running just to keep fit and healthy but it has quickly turned into my new passion.

“I wanted a challenge to aim for and felt that doing these three runs for charity would be a great motivation to keep it up and raise money for an incredibly worthy cause”.

While he has only just started his running odyssey, Martin is already planning on entering more marathons next year.
