Drivers in the pink at Kings Mill

Mansfield’s Kings Mill Hospital was in the pink at the weekend when a brightly-coloured convoy arrived at the site as part of a charity fundraising drive.

The Pink Car Rally 2013 saw dozens of vehicles and pink-clad motorists arrive at the hospital to raise cash for children’s cancer charity The Little Princess Trust.

It is the first time the rally, now in its sixth year, has come to Mansfield, and the parade was given a warm welcome by hospital staff.

Organiser Sali Gray told the Chad: “It was a fabulous weekend - the people at Kings Mill were absolutely wonderful and so many people turned out to see the parade.

“The people of Mansfield absolutely embraced the event and made us feel really welcome.”

The two-day rally started in Hereford, where the charity is based, and travelled to Mansfield on the first day, before heading onto Lincoln and Peterborough.

Previously the rally has travelled to locations around the UK, including a mamouth Lands End to John O’Groats run, for the trust, which provides real hair wigs for children experiencing hair loss through cancer treatment.

This year it came to Mansfield to honour long-term supporter Tania willets, a paediatric nurse at Kings Mill, whose sister, Nadine, recently got the all-clear, following cancer treatment.

Tania (pictured) said: “The Little Princess Trust is even closer to my heart this year as last July Nadine was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma, at just 22 years old and 26 weeks pregnant with her first baby.

“Nadine was very worried about loosing her hair and although she was too old to meet The Little Princess Trust criteria they were very generous and provided her with a wig anyway because of the fundraising we had done in the past.

“The rally sees as many pink cars as possible travel around the country visiting children’s hospitals.”

People can donate to the fund-raiser by texting TANA75, then the amount £1, £2, £3, £4, £5 and £10 to 70070.
