Drug-user arrested for stealing from car

A Mansfield thief was arrested after he returned to his car which was parked next to vehicle he had just stolen the CD player from.

Richard Derek Place, of Derby Street, Mansfield, was chased by the vehicles owner after he returned to the vehicle and spotted the 36-year-old sitting in the passenger seat, Mansfield Magistrates’ Court was told on Wednesday, 29th January.

But within minutes, Place had returned to the scene and tried to pretend he was a passer-by, prosecutor Robert Carr told the court.

Place, who had been homeless since his relationship failed and had become a drugs user, threw the CD player away as he fled from the scene.

He was given a six-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £100 costs.
