Drug-user knocked out partner’s tooth

Christopher Lee Baguley (35) of West Hill Drive appeared before Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 24th July after causing actual bodily harm on his former partner.

The court was told that Tina Swift, of Nesbitt Street, Sutton, banged her mouth on furniture as she was knocked over by the force of the bag on 20th June, knocking out the tooth.

But lawyers told the court that the tooth was already loose following an incident in 2008 when Baguley had also damaged her two front teeth.

Prosecuting, David Miles told the court that Baguley had a previous conviction for actual bodily harm on Miss Swift.

He added that the victim had been drinking vodka at the time of the attack, and that Baguley had taken amphetamine.

Defending, Simon Greaves said: “He left school with no qualifications and has a long history of dependency. He is clean from heroin but occasionally lapses and uses amphetamine.”

He added that Baguley had no contact with his 13-year-old son, because he believed he was a bad influence on the boy.

Baguley was given an 18-week prison term, suspended for 18 months and ordered to pay £85 in prosecution costs and an £80 victim surcharge.

He was also given an 18-month supervision order and told to complete 27 sessions with the Independent Domestic Abuse Service.

A restraining order was also put in place and Baguley must not enter Nesbitt Street for the next 24 months.
