Drunk teen attacked kebab shop worker a court heard

Callum Cleever, 18 of Lindleys Lane, pleaded guilty At Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday to assault by beating and causing criminal damage to a roller shutter.

The court was told Cleever turned up drunk at Sunrise Kebab on Station Street at 1am on Friday 10th April.

Staff at the Sunrise Kebab house at Kirkby Crealised someone was pulling on the shutter and member of staff took a picture of the incident.

Cleever was seen to drop his belt and wallet before assaulting the shop owner, causing reddening of his eye and swelling.

The shutter blind had been damaged but was still in working order, the court was told.

Cleever was arrested and told police he could remember damaging the roller blind but not the assault.

He said that night he had been out with friends in Mansfield and said he had “never been so drunk in his life”.

The teenager remembered getting in a taxi to Kirkby but could not recollect much about the incident.

His defence solicitor said when officers showed him CCTV evidence he had been shocked by his behaviour.

He used the kebab shop frequently and had no reason at all to do what he did.

Magistrates fined Cleever £160 and ordered him to pay compensation of £100 to his victim.

He was also ordered to pay the shop £150 compensation and pay a victim surcharge of £20.
