Easter egg competition by Tourism Group proves a roll-away success

Shops across the town centre were invited to take part, each agreeing to display a spotty, coloured Easter egg in their window.

Youngsters picked up an entry form from the information point in the library and whilst out shopping with their parents had to try and spot the eggs.

“There were many entries this year and it proved very successful,” said Ken and Sheila Robinson, chairman and treasurer of the group. “All the eggs were different with different coloured spots and the competition was for children, accompanied by parents, to go round with a list of the shops taking part, and write down opposite their name, the colour of the eggs and spots.”

The completed form had to be placed in the box at the Information Point ready for judging by Ken and Sheila with entries divided into age groups, three-five years, six-10 years, and over 10 years.

“Well done to all the winners for their efforts and thank you to all the shops who took part and all the other entries who joined in this event,” added Sheila. “Thank you also to David Burbage, one of our volunteers, who visited all the shops and distributed the eggs.

“An extra bonus for the Group was that several of the parents had written comments on the bottom of their child’s entry,” added Sheila. “These comments pointed out that the competition had reminded them of just how many shops and businesses there are in Hucknall, a fact that can easily be forgotten.

“Another nice comment made was that the competition enabled families to do something together in the town centre.”

The lucky winners were: three-five years-Joel Hodge, a three year-old pupil of Leen Mills Pre-School and Thomas Pears also of Lean Mills Primary School, aged five who both won as they tied with only two incorrect answers.

In the six-10 year group the winner was Eddie Sears of Hucknall National Primary, aged six and 10 years and over - Lydia Sears also of Hucknall National Primary, aged 11.

All the winners received an Easter egg and a medallion.
