Pupils at King Edward Primary School in Mansfield will see the fruits of their labour after planting eight new trees on site, under the supervision of the Maun Conservation Group.

For a third year running, apple, plum and damson trees were planted thanks to a grant from the Greenwood Community Forest Trees for Shade Scheme, which will eventually provide a healthy option in the school kitchen.

Prizes were also presented in an assembly to the winners of a competition to design the layout for a flowerbed in Titchfield Park, with Rebecca Chapman, Skye Wilkinson and Elise Ackerman receiving hand garden tools, nest boxes and gardening books.

Mansfield District Council’s Parks’ Department were represented by recycling officer Nicola Harvey, while also in attendance were members of The Prince’s Trust who have been working to re-establish the school’s Gardening Club garden, which had been lost due to a recent building project.
