Emma’s campaign for better disabled access at Kirkby station sees petition handed into parliament
Emma Donaldson, a wheelchair user, visits friends in Kirkby regularly but has to travel through Kirkby Station to Mansfield and get a bus back to Kirkby, as she cannot get out of the station there.
Earlier this year she began to build a petition, and enlisted the support of her MP, Mark Spencer. Together with volunteers they took the petition out to the streets and gathered names, and Mr Spencer has now presented the petition to Parliament. It will now be looked at by the Department for Transport, who will respond to Emma’s request.

It’s really important that people have fair access to travel and services regardless of disability, and I’m grateful to Mark, to my local Councillor Ben and the team that came out and helped me put it together.”
Mark said: “It’s a great cause and Emma has worked incredibly hard. As I said in my speech it’s difficult to believe that places like stations aren’t all accessible, we live in 2015 and we just take those things for granted, but many of them aren’t and it makes life difficult for a lot of people.”
