ENERGY LESSON FROM KONNIE HUQ

ENERGY-conscious children from a Bulwell school joined forces with TV presenter Konnie Huq to take part in an outdoor science class with a difference.

The youngsters from Cantrell Primary, on Cantrell Road, met up with the former ‘Blue Peter’ presenter at Morven Park Primary School in Mansfield for an education programme run by energy giant E.ON.

Using a giant, pedal-powered electric-buzzer game, Konnie taught the kids – aged between seven and 11 – about renewable energy.

The youngsters pedalled the bike to keep the buzzer going, showing how renewable sources of energy, such as wind turbines, can generate power by moving.

The oversized game forms part of E.ON’s interactive Energy Experience programme, which is aimed at helping youngsters understand about the different sources of energy we use.

Konnie said: “It’s so important that children understand where energy comes from and about the different ways of generating power because they’ll be the ones looking after the environment in the future.

E.ON have reached more than 1.25 million students with their programme since October 2007.
