Engineering firm does its bit to aid flood victims

Employees from Pinxton and Kirkby-based engineering firm Van Elle have helped flood victims in Cumbria by delivering much-needed equipment to help with the clean-up operation.

The geotechnical contractors battled through high winds and torrential rain to deliver the most required resources, such as essential cleaning fluids, wipes, disinfectants, mops, buckets and brushes, with the help of their supplier Rubber Safety Hygiene.

After seeing how badly flooded parts of the Lake District were, Van Elle wanted to help out and contacted flood relief central headquarters at the Old Fire Station in Penrith, where donations were being received and despatched to those who need them most.

Vic Handley, group director at Van Elle, filled the company’s largest van with supplies and took them to Penrith where he received a warm welcome from the amazing volunteers.

Vic said: “I hope our donation helps in some small way. You have to admire the resilience of the people here and the dedication of the volunteers and helpers given the turmoil everyone is experiencing.Driving here gave me an insight as to the horrendous weather the region has suffered with closed roads and swollen rivers a common sight.”
