LAST weekend finally saw a change in the weather with sunshine venturing out for what seems like the first time in months, casting a brighter light over the area.
Hopefully snow is now a thing of the past as we begin to look forward to the new start that spring brings.
To mark the first steps into spring, the Dispatch has teamed up with local photographer Neil Lancashire to launch our Spring Photographic Competition 2013.
Now is the time to get your cameras out, whether SLR or compact, digital or film and capture the essence of the season.
You may even want to use your phone or tablet to record an image whilst out and about.
Your chosen subject can be anything as long as it reflects this time of year and is taken in the Dispatch district.
“We are hoping that young people from across the area use this competition to get out and about where they live and capture some great images,” said Dispatch photographer Anne Shelley. “Spring means different things to different people so it is all about how you choose to translate this through your photography.
“You might choose a landscape shot or close-up. It might include flowers and foliage or woodland or it could be an urban landscape depicting the season in our towns.”
Neil Lancashire said he was delighted to be teaming up with the Dispatch for the competition.
“I’m looking forward to seeing some wonderful pictures,” said Neil.
“I hope the young photographers out there will impress us with their creative vision for spring.”
There will be three age categories for the competition - 7-10, 11-13 and 14-17.
Each category winner will receive a prize of a canvas print of their image to treasure plus having their picture published in the Dispatch.
The judges will be Dispatch editor Tracy Powell, Dispatch photographer Anne Shelley and Neil Lancashire, who is providing the prizes.
The competition will run from now until 8th May. The winners will be announced in the 22nd May edition.
Please send in your entries to Dispatch Spring Photographic Competition 2013, 121 Newgate Lane, Mansfield, Notts. NG18 2PA or via email as a jpeg no larger than 1MB to email@example.com labelling the message as ‘photo comp’.
