Evening courses on DIY skills

EVENING courses offering the chance to hone do-it-yourself (DIY) skills are being offered by New College Nottingham (ncn).

Dispatch district residents can sign up for the part-time courses, which cover the basics of plumbing, painting and decorating, welding or joinery.

Based at Basford Hall College on Stockhill Lane, Basford, the courses cost £140 per person. No prior experience or qualifications are needed.

DIY plumbing lecturer Phil Grocutt said: “This course is perfect for home-owners who want to learn basic plumbing information, such as how to remove a radiator when decorating or how to isolate your hot and cold water, which can be very important in an emergency.

“During each session, we look at common faults. Often, topics are driven by the group. The learners are given a range of practical scenarios, which provide them with first-hand experience of how components work and fit together and where potential errors can arise.”
