Ex-cop admits computer offences

A former police officer has pleaded guilty to a number of offences in relation to the Computer Misuse and Data Protection acts.

Kelly Hinds, a response officer based at Sutton who had also worked at Mansfield, admitted six counts of computer misuse and four counts of breaches of data protection. She will be sentenced on 10th April.

Hinds used police computer systems to access information which she passed on to a third party between 2011 and 2013.

DCC Sue Fish said this could easily have been used to benefit others or undermine a prosecution.

“Kelly Hinds abused her position and while she has taken some responsibility for her actions by pleading guilty, the fact remains that she breached the policy and abused her position, which is completely unacceptable,” she said.

Hinds resigned from her post in February.
