Excitement builds ahead of Southwell’s Family Fun Day

On Sunday afternoon, Southwell host one of their biggest days of the year with Family Fun Day at the track.

At the time of writing there is a seven race programme beginning at 2.10pm, and there is a really good three mile handicap hurdle right in the middle of the card with a £25,000 prize fund and just over £15,000 to the winner.

The current top weight in the early entries is On The Bridge for trainer Jeremy Scott who has his horses in fine fettle at present.

Donald McCain could be represented by recent Worcester second Tornado Bob, and David Pipe has three entrants including Vif Argent who has been given a small break in anticipation of this particular contest looming on the horizon.

AP McCoy however may have a choice of rides in the feature with Clues And Arrows, Master Malt and Join The Clan all entered for Jonjo O’Neill, with the most likely ride probably being Master Malt, an improving novice who scampered away from some fair rivals at Ffos Las last time out.

The Chad Novice Chase at 2.40 also looks a cracker with a few recent chase winners in the field from good stables, including the Donald McCain trained Billfromthebar, who won under a power packed AP McCoy ride at Uttoxeter last time.

Heronry is also in the entries for Nicky Henderson after a good display at Worcester, Kilbree Kid won on his penultimate start over the larger obstacles at Market Rasen and Wolf Shield impressed at Hexham when winning well last time out as well.

As for the entertainment, there will be appearances throughout the afternoon from Mike The Knight and his sister Evie for the kids, whilst there will be a chance for people to get their photos taken alongside football legend Ossie Ardiles, who is spending World Cup finals day at Southwell. There will be a charity auction of selected football memorabilia also taking place in aid of the Help For Heroes charity.

Tickets are going fast, so to secure place, visit www.southwell-racecourse.co.uk or call 01636 814481.

There’s also a two-for-one ticket voucher in this week’s edition of the Mansfield and Ashfield Chad, which makes the day out even better value!
