Exercise is key to a good Christmas

PENSIONERS in Bulwell were put through their paces ahead of the festive season with a pre-Christmas exercise session.

Fifty-seven elderly residents flocked to the event staged by the BULWELL HALL TENANTS AND RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION.

After a buffet lunch and jacket potatoes, followed by dessert, the group of 60-plus locals got down to their exercise at the Healthy Living Community Centre on Lawton Drive.

They were led through a series of chair-based activities by well-known fitness instructor Maverick.

Props used included large, elastic band-style pieces of material to help the pensioners stretch.

Once the workout was completed, Santa Claus paid a special visit to the venue to present gifts.

It was then time to turn up the volume for music ranging from Christmas carols to tracks from the 1940s through to the 1960s. Those who were physically able got out of their chairs and enjoyed a dance.

Christmas cards were presented to everyone who took part in the event.

Sheila Loades, chairman of the tenants and residents group, said: “It was a wonderful afternoon. It was great to get the community together for a celebration in the run-up to Christmas.

“We now run a series of these lunches and exercise events, which are going from strength to strength. A big thankyou goes to everyone who helped organise it and to those who took part.”

Funding for the event came from the Nottinghamshire Community Foundation.
