Facebook volunteers rally round to clear vandalised Church Warsop football ground

Volunteers have rallied round to clear up a vandalised Church Warsop football ground thanks to the power of the Internet.

Vandals left a sickening trail of destruction at The Alley Ground, smashing fences and plinths and leaving a dugout with fire damage.

But thanks to the efforts of the Warsop Community Discussion Group on Facebook, the ground has been cleared of debris.

Jane Bere a former Warsop resident who now lives in Forest Town is part of the online group which discusses all things Warsop and has helped raise thousands of pounds for local good causes.

She said: ““Whether it was adults or kids who did it, the damage was just mindless.

“There were a lot of alcohol bottles around and a local resident said the dugout may have been used for taking drugs in.

“Something had been set on fire in there - it was just awful.

The Alley used to be the home football ground of Church Warsop Miners Welfare Football Club before it disbanded.

“The vandals knocked a concrete plinth out of the wall and the dug outs where the subs and managers sat were covered in broken glass.

“We were discussing online about what a mess it was.

“Keith Goodwin an admin in the group put a call out to our members and they decided to rally round.”

“About 15 members turned up, cleared all the rubbish aways and took it to a tip.”
