Families get into festive spirit for Kirkby and Sutton Christmas lights

Residents in Kirkby and Sutton got into the festive spirit when the Christmas lights were switched on in their towns.

Sutton Town Centre Group working in partnership with Sutton Community Academy and Ashfield District Council helped to put on the Sutton Town Centre Festive Event held on Portland Square on Friday and Saturday.

A range of market stalls raising hundreds of pounds for local charities were available for people to purchase Christmas craft gifts or presents for themselves. The Salvation Army brass band played at the event adding a real Christmas cheer,

A flash mob by Sutton Community Academy Further Education Cinderella Panto cast members took place in the middle of Portland Square which created a fun-fuelled atmosphere.

In Kirkby, Santa made an appearance with his reindeer at St Thomas’ Church and the Christmas story was re-enacted through the town using actors and animals.

As well as carols and brass band music, there was a stage for entertainment and a Christmas market, plus a craft fair and family funfair.
