Fancy-dress fundraiser for charity

CUSTOMERS of a Bulwell shop wrapped up a brilliant fundraising effort on Christmas Eve — and helped collect a total of £387 for cancer sufferers.

From December 4 to December 24, shoppers at Bon Marche who bought any merchandise in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support at the Main Street store were entered into a free prize draw.

Items ranging from Macmillan cups to festive pin-badges were on offer, and the fundraising total came from money made through the sales.

Entry into the draw offered the incentive of prizes of two hampers — a large version and a mini counterpart.

They were brimming with goodies bought by Bon Marche staff, with treats ranging from mince pies, alcohol and Christmas crackers to teddy bears and a Disney Tinkerbell doll.

In a fancy-dress day at the store on Christmas Eve, the winners were chosen and presented with their hampers.

This latest initiative has taken the store’s fundraising in aid of Macmillan past the £1,500 mark since April. Assistant manager Sharon Bowley said: “I have to thank everyone for their support. It’s amazing.”
