Figures show disregard for speed limits

A freedom of information request by the Institute of Advanced Motorists has revealed that between this month and April last year two motorists were caught driving at almost twice the speed limit on the A614.

One driver was clocked travelling at 98mph near White Post Farm while another was caught at the same speed near Bilsthorpe. Both sections have a restriction of 50mph.

Frank Egmanton, Secretary and Senior Observer at Mansfield Group of Advanced Motorists, said: “The A614 has been very accident prone for many years.

“One of the basic things we teach is that you should able to stop safely in the distance you can see to be clear on your side of the road.

“Weather conditions make a big difference to travelling speed and the A614 is plagued with undulations.”

The speed limit on the A614 between Ollerton roundabout and Nottingham was cut to 50pmph in June 2011 following pressure from the public.

The road was the scene of an horrific accident in February 2009, which claimed the lives of six people.
