First Aiders on the rise in Mansfield

The charity, which raises funds by providing commercial workplace first aid training, trained 758 people from local businesses over the course of last year, an increase of 3.6 per cent on the 2014 figure of 732.

John Cavanagh, Director of Workplace Training from St John Ambulance, said: “These figures show that businesses are realising the importance of workplace safety and the key role first aid has to play at work and in the home. We know from experience that many people who go on a first aid course with their employer go on to use their skills in the home and local community to save lives.’

Figures are up across the whole East Midlands region. There were 14824 first aiders trained by businesses across the region in 2015 - a rise of 513 on the previous year. Although some areas saw a drop in workplace training.

Mr Cavanagh warned: “First aid emergencies can happen at any time and so it’s vital that all businesses in the region invest in training their employees.”
