THE STANDARD of the relaunched Bulwell branch of the Royal British Legion was dedicated during a special ceremony at St Mary’s Church in the town.

Bulwell has never previously had its own arm of the Legion, which celebrates its 90th anniversary this year.

Twenty-six members attended the service at the church on Highbury Road. It was conducted by the Rev Andy Nicolls, who is also president of the Legion branch.

The standard, in the form of a flag, was carried by Ronald Hickling, accompanied by two members of the Bulwell section of the Army Cadet Force — Sean Davey and Dave Williams.

John Prichard, chairman of the Bulwell branch of the Legion, gave thanks to C.Terry funeral services, of Bulwell, and Chris Tilley, a Tesco community champion who gave advice on fundraising. He also welcomed new member Terry Haywood.

The role of the Legion is to support serving and former members of the armed forces.
