Food boost for needy pets

A FOOD-collection drive by a Bulwell travel agency in aid of homeless and abandoned pets has again taken the LEAD.

For the last six years, staff at Co-op Travel, based at Wilkinsons store on Main Street, have organised the annual collection over the Christmas and New Year period.

The latest renewal has once again proven a success with the donated items being presented to the RSPCA.

“There was a slow start, which is understandable in view of the current economic climate,” said branch manager Jayne Jones. “But we ended up with two shopping trolleys overflowing with donations.

“Each year we bring out laminated cards to advertise that we are collecting pet food and we have a poster in our window from November. A representative of the RSPCA called to collect the items and the society is always very grateful for what we do.

“The RSPCA tell us how vital our contribution is to make sure they have enough food for needy animals in these tough times. All the staff members at our branch are delighted to do anything they can to help and give the initiative their whole-hearted support. The RSPCA certainly thinks what we do is well worthwhile.”
