Former Mansfield miner’s new legal career

A former Mansfield coal miner who gave up life down the pit to study at university is celebrating after entering the legal profession.

Former Sherwood Hall pupil Stephen Garbett left school in 1986 and went to work at Clipston Colliery the following year.

But after five years at the coalface Stephen went to study Philosophy and Economics at the University of Nottingham after completing his A Levels at night school.

Following a second career as a pub landlord, he studied at law school and has now been called to the bar and accepted to Lincoln’s Inn.

Stephen (pictured) now hopes to complete one more year of on-the-job training to allow him to practice as a barrister.
