Martin Beresford is aiming to raise £10,000 to split between the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and the Indee Rose Trust, a charity for children diagnosed with brain or spinal tumours.

He has friends from the Nottingham and Sutton areas who have been affected by these conditions and they have inspired him to take part in the year-long challenge.

Before he turns 40 in November, Martin will have completed 20 endurance events - such as marathons, bike rides and obstacle courses - and 20 fun-themed events such as walks and charity gigs.

He said: “I have been doing marathons for a number of years but wanted something different leading up to my 40th and thought about doing 40 different things.”

Martin has put together a list of all of the events he wanted to do and has already hiked the Inca Trail in Peru and ran the London Marathon.

Last weekend he raised £150 by walking a nine-mile route from Sutton to the One Call Stadium ahead of Mansfield Town’s last home league game of the season and coming up are the Great Notts Bike Ride, Tough Mudder Midlands and the Las Vegas Marathon.

“It’s quite arduous, mentally and physically,” he said.

“But I have got some fine people helping the cause and it’s good to have that level of support when people actually get involved.”
