Free info programme for dementia sufferers

A Free six week programme is being delivered by the Alzheimer’s Society in Amber Valley, funded by Derbyshire County Council and NHS.

The aim of the programme is to give the carers of those with dementia as much information as possible.

The information provided will include legal and financial issues, tips on coping strategies, understanding dementia and the agencies that can help.

The sessions will take place at The Cottage, 16 Chapel Street, Belper DE56 1AR (opposite the bus station).

The programme will begin on Tuesday 29th April starting at 2pm and finishing at 4.30pm and will run on the same day and time for six weeks, with the final session on 3rd June.

There are currently believed to be omore than13,000 people in Derbyshire living with dementia and 3,000 in Derby city alone.

Stephen Tomlinson, Support Group Facilitator for Alzheimer’s Society, said: “We are really pleased to have this opportunity to deliver this course in Amber Valley. When people are diagnosed with this condition they are often devastated.

It not only affects them but also their families. This programme will give those that care for people with dementia valuable knowledge, but more importantly the message that they are not alone.”
