Free school meals changes

PARENTS in Hucknall are being urged to check if their youngsters are entitled to free school-meals in the wake of an overhaul of the benefits system.

Alterations have been made by the government to child tax credits and working tax credits, which link into entitlement for free school-meals.

Families may qualify if they receive income support, income-based jobseeker’s allowance, income-related employment support allowance, support under part six of the Immigration and Asylum Act or child tax credit (but not working tax credit), and your income is no more than £16,190 a year.

If you receive one of the above payments, your children (under-sevens) will also be entitled to free milk. Parents receiving any of these benefits should call 01623 433009 to check if they meet the free-meals criteria.
