Ashfield MP Gloria De Piero has spoken out after a politcal rival was arrested this week.

It has emerged allegations have been made against parliamentary candidate Jason Zadrozny’s - including underage sex claims - which he denies.

The former Lib Dem candidate was arrested and bailed following allegations of sex with a person under the age of 16.

In a statement issued by coun Zadrozny he said: “Yesterday (Wednesday) I was questioned by Nottinghamshire Police about historic allegations, some of which are over ten years old.

“I am in full cooperation with the police and vehemently refute the allegations.”

Speaking to Chad, Ms Piero said: “These are serious allegations but the important thing now is to allow the police to get on and do their job.”

The Liberal Democrats are now finding a replacement for the candidacy.

Jason Zadrozny also represents Sutton North on Ashfield District Council.

A spokeswoman for the council said: “The council can add nothing to the statement issued today by the police on this matter.

“It will respond to any requests from the police which may arise during the course of the investigation.”
