Hucknall’s Friends of Chernobyl’s Children charity has held a fundraising Golf Day to enable the annual visits to continue.

The charity helps bring children from the Belarus district to give them a month in the Dispatch district living with host families to boost their health.

Sixty-eight players took to the fairways at Mapperley Park Golf Club for the Texas Scramble four man team competition, which was organised by Paul Challand whose wife Kim is the fund-raising co-ordinator for the charity.

Paul Challand and his determined fundraisers were rewarded for their forward planning and teamwork with £1,500 raised on the day.

“It has been a wonderful competition whose success owes much to the generosity and support of people who have dug deep and have gone out of their way to help our cause.” said Paul.

“I would also like to thank the Golf Club and its employees for the part played.”

Taking the honours as overall champions and competition winners were David Brewster, Simon and David Boulter and Martin Leadbeter whose excellent teamwork and skilful play was duly rewarded.

As well as sporting competition, the Golf Day’s success owed much to generous supporters who donated scores of prizes for a raffle and a grand auction.

Football memorabilia provided by Manchester United and Notts County, meal vouchers, a £90 carpet voucher and golfing equipment attracted brisk bidding.

The charity welcomes new host families and support. For details contact Kim Challand on 0115-9680247.
