A joint birthday party and wedding reception was held at the Framesmiths Arms pub, Bulwell, which is colloquially known as the ‘Monkey’.

John, of Selwyn Close, Old Basford, has made a name for himself through the keen interest he takes in local government and policing.

Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner Paddy Tipping, who was at the party, said: “I would like to wish John a very happy birthday.

“He keeps an eye on what the police and councils are doing. He is a great public servant and he speaks up for local people.”

The county’s Chief Constable, Chris Eyre, also attended the party but was called away because of an emergency.

In addition to a large number of family members, those present included Coun John Hartshorne, a Bulwell Labour member of Nottingham City Council, and Billy Marriott, of a firm which has been replacing street lights across Nottingham.

Chris and his bride, Carlene, who are both 26, were married at Nottingham Council House and they are making their home on Stock Well, Bulwell. Entertainment at the party was provided by singer Julie Diamond.
