I’M immensely proud to be the current President of the Rotary Club of Hucknall.
I became a Rotarian initially to broaden my contacts, but soon found tremendous friendship, purpose, and personal satisfaction in being able to give something back to the community in which I lived.
My involvement with Rotary has given me that special sense of fulfilment that only comes from achieving something really worthwhile.
Since its inception in 1926, the Rotary Club of Hucknall has been at the heart of the community, both locally and internationally. Many local projects were started and have been supported by the town’s Rotary club. Regular activities include the long-running and very popular Over 73s tea, Community Sponsor Swimathon, Santa’s Sleigh and the Christmas Carnival both of which brings great Christmas cheer.
Recent projects have included raising funds for Help for Heroes and the new Cystic Fibrosis unit at City Hospital.
During this Rotary year, we have also helped build water dams in Linby Docks, promoted greater awareness for issues around Domestic Abuse, providing help for community events such as the Big Draw project, Hucknall Christmas Tree Festival, Hucknall Beer Festival and the Churches Good Friday March.
As the club’s president, it’s been all been most gratifying although very time-demanding and hard work at times.
If something is happening in Hucknall, you can be assured that Rotary is usually involved in some way.
Certainly, Hucknall would be much poorer without a Rotary Club. The amazing thing is that Rotary is not a business, it is a voluntary service organisation.
I and my fellow members all give selflessly of our time and talents to enrich our community.
There’s something that all Rotary club members have in common: We’re for communities and we take action.
We are always looking for new members. If you want to get involved in your community, if you want to connect with other professionals, if you want to share your time experience and skill to help others, if you want to support local and global causes, and if you want great enjoyment doing this THEN Rotary is the group for you.
We would love to hear from you. You can contact our membership chairman Ivan Manning on 0115 955 9817, like us on Facebook www.facebook.com/HucknallRC or follow us on Twitter @HucknallRC.
