Hammer man’s threat to victim’s family

Armed with a hammer, a Bulwell man committed an assault and threatened to damage the homes of his victim’s family, it was alleged in court.

Matthew McNaul, of Bonington Close, appeared at Nottingham Crown Court via video-link from Nottingham Prison, where he is being held in custody.

McNaul is accused of assaulting Adam Betteridge, causing him actual bodily harm, on Tuesday April 7 this year.

He faces two further charges of having an offensive weapon, namely a hammer, in a public place, Willow Hill Close, Bulwell, also on April 7, and of making a threat, on Friday April 24, to damage the houses of Mr Betteridge’s family members.

The court was told that McNaul was arrested in July, but intended to plead not guilty to all three charges.

His case was adjourned until Friday October 16 when a plea and case management hearing will take place.

A provisional date of Monday January 18 was set for the trial. McNaul was remanded in custody.
