Have your say on M1 plans in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire

MEMBERS of the public are being invited this week to find out more about plans to add extra capacity on a section of the M1 going through North Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire by upgrading it to a managed motorway.

Technology-driven improvements are planned for 19 miles of the M1 from junction 28, (South Normanton) to junction 31(near Worksop, Nottinghamshire)

As part of the scheme, the hard shoulder of the M1 will be converted to a permanent traffic lane.

The hard shoulder between the junction slip roads will also be converted to a full-time running lane in both directions to continue this extra capacity through the junction.

Public information exhibitions will be held at the Derbyshire Hotel, South Normanton, (near J28) on Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd February.

People will be able to find out more about the innovative scheme and how work to deliver the project may affect them. Highways Agency staff will be on hand to listen to comments and concerns and answer any questions.

Similar managed motorway schemes are planned for the M1 between junctions 32 and 35a, near Sheffield.
