Seventy-year-old nurse Sue Robinson and her NHS colleagues were all born in 1948 – the year the NHS was founded – and all began studying at medical school together in 1966.

With this year being the 70th anniversary of the health service, Sue has launched an appeal to find her former colleagues and organise a reunion to celebrate the special year.

Sue, who was called Sue Kelly when she met her friends in 1966, said: “We all started at the same time doing our training with the NHS, and it was a lovely atmosphere with us all.

“Just about all of us were 18 when we started in 1966, meaning we were all born in 1948 at the same time as the NHS.

“We took our GCEs together and each spent three months working in various departments such as X-ray, kitchens and path lab until aged 17, then three months on each ward.

“We learned a lot and got to know how a hospital works.

“We had our last reunion in 1988. However, a lot of us have moved around the country , so we have struggled to keep in touch with each other, but I’d love to get everyone together.”

She is appealing for women who go by, or once went by, the names of Rose Schnell, Susan Hill, Shirley Thompson, Credwyn Bartlett, Maureen Harston, Judith Faxby and Pauline Middleton.

Sue said many of the women going by these names may have married since and changed their names, but she is hoping that by mentioning their names she will have a good chance of filling her reunion.

She said: “When we do get together it is like the years have never passed and we are all still young again, and I hope we can get as many of them back together for the reunion.”

The reunion is planned for September 22.

Sue she has urged any of her former colleagues to contact Veronica McCann, who will be hosting the reunion, on 01623 464941.
