A HEARTWARMING fundraising effort in honour of a young footballer who suffered a life-threatening heart-attack has collected more than £2,000.

Glynn Raven (15), pictured, is a goalkeeper for Bulwell Rangers Under-15s and previously played for Hucknall Sports.

But just before Christmas he was rushed to the specialist cardiac unit at Glenfield Hospital, Leicester, after suffering a blood clot caused by a virus.

He had to undergo nine hours of open-heart surgery, spent several weeks in hospital, and would have died but for urgent medication.

In response, teammates and Bulwell Rangers officials launched a series of benefit events to raise money for Glenfield.

The centrepiece was an event at the Bestwood Road Sports and Social Club in Bulwell last month. More than 150 people flocked to the fun day, including Glyn and his parents, Sean and Sally.

Attractions included a disco, raffle and an auction with lots ranging from a football signed by Nottingham Forest legends Peter Shilton and Stuart Pearce to football boots.

An overall total of £2,100 includes money raised through a charity football match and another event at the Nuthall pub in Broxtowe. Glynn’s appreciative family hope to present to cash to Glenfield soon.
