Help inspire the next generation of readers

Volunteers are needed at a number of libraries across the county to support this year’s Summer Reading Challenge and the libraries include Kirkby, Sutton, Mansfield, Mansfield Woodhouse, Forest Town and Warsop.

Bosses at Nottinghamshire County Council are looking for helpers (minimum age 14) who can spare around 12 to 15 hours to sign children up the challenge, listen to the youngsters talk about the books they have read and hand out stickers and rewards.

Carolyn Gallagher, who is team librarian for the county council, said: “There are a number of benefits for people who are able to volunteer for the Summer Reading Challenge.

“Volunteers will gain new skills and build confidence, meet new people, work as part of a team and get the rewards of working with children.”

Each year, as part of the national Summer Reading Challenge co-ordinated by the Reading Agency, the county’s libraries challenge children aged four to 11 years old to read six books over the holidays.
