Giving Tuesday is a new global day of giving and will come to the UK for the first time on December 2.

#GivingTuesday started in The United States in 2012 as an antidote to the start of the festive shopping season, which is now kicked off by ‘Black Friday’ sales and ‘Cyber Monday’ shopping online – with more and more companies are bringing the Black Friday sales and the Cyber Monday online shopping spree to the UK.

Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust is committed to protecting and enhancing the remaining areas of Sherwood’s forest and heathland. However, efforts to safeguard the future Sherwood Forest need new investment to help to reconnect wildlife-rich spaces.

Speaking on behalf of the Wildlife Trust, Erin McDaid said: “We think Giving Tuesday is a great initiative and we hope that people will spend some time thinking about the issues that matter to them and offer support to charities which make a difference here in Nottinghamshire.

“This is why the Trust need help- this #GivingTuesday. Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust believes that more needs to be done to restore and reconnect our famous Forest and has developed the ‘Champions of Sherwood’ campaign to enable everyone to play their part in safeguarding what remains of the Forest and to restore its legendary landscape.”

At the heart of the campaign is the Sherwood Forest Restoration Fund, a fund which will be used to care for existing areas of Sherwood’s heathland, woodland and wetland habitat and to fund research, education and restoration projects.

Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust is already caring for key areas of Sherwood Forest and working with a wide range of partners including The Forestry Commission, The University of Nottingham, Local Authorities, community groups and private landowners to restore and reconnect the Sherwood Landscape.

Donations to the Sherwood Forest Restoration Fund will be spent directly on conservation and education programmes in the heart of Sherwood Forest.
