High winds knock out heating at Forest Town school

Parents were asked to keep their children at home by text and a message was also posted on social network site Twitter.

An engineer has been in attendance at the Braemar Road school and the problem is expected to be resolved during the course of today so lessons can go ahead tomorrow as planned.

“The heating is being fixed as we speak,” headteacher Zoe Anderson told Chad this morning. “It will probably take a couple of hours and another couple of hours for heat to spread throughout the school.

“It was just too cold for the children to come in this morning and so a decision was taken on that basis.

“It isn’t the best way to start a new term, but I’m sure parents will understand our reasoning.

Texts were sent them out about 7.15am this morning once Mrs Anderson had assessed the situation.

She added: “There were inevitably a couple of parents who brought their children in having not seen the message, but the vast majority were notified in time.

“I’m informed that it was the high winds that have affected the heating system, but we’re confident we’ll be back to normal for tomorrow and we will be keeping parents informed with another text this afternoon.”
