The “precious” boathouse at Titchfield Park was targeted on Friday night with serious damage caused.

District councillors for Hucknall south, Keir Morrison and Lauren Mitchell, issued a joint statement which says: “This is absolutely appalling that such a historic building has been vandalised so badly.

“Vandalism is destroying our most precious features in our town and ultimately everybody loses out.

“I hope we can educate people so they understand the huge negative impact this has.

“We will be working with Friends of Titchfield Park and Ashfield District Council in the coming weeks to try and resolve this situation. If anybody has any ideas or constructive comments then please contact us.

“At the end of the day the council can only do so much before people have to take individual responsibility for their actions.”

Pictures show the boathouse severely damage with the roof looking almost beyond repair.

Firefighters from Stockhill and Hucknall were called to the scene at 9.38pm on Friday (November 4).

Crews used two main jets, two hose reel jets and two short extension ladders to extinguish the flames.

The police were informed as were Ashfield District Council due to the structural damage.

On Facebook, Friends of Titchfield Park Hucknall, said: “Really sorry to say the boat house had been set on fire last night. It was one of the unique features of the park and now destroyed by an act of mindless vandalism.”
