Historic hotel gets go-ahead for £750,000 makeover

The extensive refurbishment is set to transform Cockliffe Country House Hotel, a 17th century former farmhouse which is in the grounds of Burntstump Country Park, near Papplewick.

The venue’s 11 bedrooms, restaurant and wedding and conference facilities will all be modernised. The improvements will include the building of a new 2,400 square-foot multi-purpose space, ideal for weddings, which will be able to seat up to 80 guests, and a new bridal suite.

All the work will ensure the main house retains its traditional values, while adding a contemporary twist. The designs feature strong wooden beams, exposed stonework and high ceilings, allowing plenty of natural light. The makeover is expected to be completed by next May.

Cockliffe Country House is owned by the independent hotel group, Heritage Estates, whose director, Jon-Paul Davies, said: “When we first walked into Cockliffe, we could see the fantastic potential of the building.

“But it is a heritage asset, so we had to do what was right by the property, not just see the commercial opportunities. We have worked hard with Heritage England and Gedling Borough Council’s planning department.

“We can’t wait to restore this stunning building into something everyone in the local community can be proud of.”
